Bonnie Hawkins, 68, passed away on May 3, 2015 at Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau.

A Celebration of Life will be held for her 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at Sandy Beach in Juneau. All who knew Bonnie or were touched by her life are welcome to attend.

Bonnie was born on Aug. 8, 1946 in Kalispell, Mont. Bonnie moved to Juneau in 1978, and by 1980 she began receiving services from REACH, Inc. At first, Bonnie began working in a day training program, which was later transformed into READY-MAIL, a bulk mail processing service. There, she stuffed, stapled, stamped, labeled and sorted bulk mail.

On Nov. 2, 1988, Bonnie moved into the Northland Group Home, where she lived for many years before later moving into Glacier Woods Group Home.

Over the years, she enjoyed life by participating in many activities with, friends, housemates and caregivers. In April of 1994, she went to Maui where she spent a lot of time at the beach and enjoyed wading in the warm water and lying in the sun. In May of 1991, Bonnie traveled to Oregon where she enjoyed shopping, sight-seeing and going to the beach.

At Northland, she enjoyed spending time in the back yard planting flowers, swinging on her swing, walking and enjoying nature.
While at Glacier Woods, Bonnie liked working on art projects at REACH's Canvas Art Studio every morning. In the afternoon, she'd go out with her caregivers and housemates to do various activities. She liked people-watching, walking outdoors, shopping for clothes and going out to dinner. At home, she liked to flip through her picture books, play with colored beads and intently watch the social activity at the house.

Bonnie is buried at the Alaskan Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3839 Riverside Drive, Juneau.
