Long-time Juneau resident, Buel M. Hixson Jr. passed away on August 18, 2014 at home following a short battle with cancer.

Buel was born on February 5, 1928 in Denver, Colorado to Buel and Mary Hixson.

Buel was raised in Powell, Wyoming and graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1952.

Buel began his career of public service with the United States Army working to assist in rebuilding Japan after World War II. After receiving his honorable discharge, he continued his public service with the Alaska Road Commission in 1953 and worked for the next 30 years for the state and federal governments creating and repairing the infrastructure of Alaska.
