Charles "Bert" Platt of Mercer passed away at 2:19 a.m. Friday,January 3, 2014 in Nugent's Convalescent Home. He was 76.

Mr. Platt was born December 13, 1937 in Leechburg, PA a son of Chuck and Marion McGuire Platt.

Bert was a 1957 graduate of Freeport High School.

He was honorably discharged from United States Army in 1962.

Mr. Platt retired in 2004 after 30 years of driving tractor trailer to Pittsburgh for Dean's Food.

Bert was an active member of Calvary Fellowship Chapel, where he served as the Bus Director, deacon, and taught adult and youth Sunday school. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Most importantly he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He married his high school sweet heart, Janice Simcik Platt on September 5, 1959.

Surviving are: a daughter, Michelle Lorraine Koprivnak and her husband Scott of Hermitage; 2 sons, John Beaver Platt and his wife Amber of Mercer and Chuck Shane Platt and his wife Charity of Juneau, AK; a sister, Patricia Snyder of Leechburg, PA; 10 grandchildren, Megan Carter, Zachariah Carter, John Koprivnak, Abigail Koprivnak, Katie Platt, Victoria Bauder, Sydney Drake, Vinnie Sletvold, Helene Platt, and Loren Platt.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sharon Baptist Church.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2014, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. There will also be calling hours on Friday,January 10, 2014 in the Sharon Baptist Church 1531 George St. Hermitage, PA 16148. one hour prior to the service.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 10, 2014, in the Sharon Baptist Church 1531 George St. Hermitage, PA 16148, with the Rev. Thomas E. Morgan, pastor of Sharon Baptist Church.
