Charles W. Clements died peacefully in his sleep at the Courtyard Care Community Wednesday, October 12, 2011. He was a lifelong Alaskan and grew up in a hand built cabin outside of Moose Pass where he was home schooled. The family later moved to Manley Hot Springs near Fairbanks where Charlie attended University of Alaska Fairbanks in Engineering and Fisheries Management. Charlie was in ROTC and served his country on the DMZ in Korea for over a year. He returned to Alaska and worked building cabins, fishing and surveying in Denali Park.

Charlie is survived by his mother, Mary Squarebriggs of Bellingham, WA, and his wife Deborah Woodruff who resides at their home in Gustavus, AK. Charlie and Deb were nearly inseparable as they built their cabins, octagonal home, commercial fishing business and the Blue Heron Bed & Breakfast at Glacier Bay. They jointly ran their B&B for years and loved sharing the magic that is Alaska with their guests. Charlie retired in 2008 with health complications but never lost sharing stories about his beloved Alaska. A celebration of his life will be planned at a later dated. Heartfelt love goes out to all who will miss this extraordinary gentle man. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gustavus Community Clinic, P.O. Box 399, Gustavus, AK 99826
