Dennis Grawcock passed away February 22, 2013 in Rathdrum, Idaho. Dennis was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Ruth E. and Theron P. Grawcock on July 28, 1951.
Dennis was the epitome of honor, integrity, and selflessness. He was the "go-to" guy no matter what situation you found yourself in. Whether you had known him for years, or if you had just met him, he was always willing to help. He carried the characteristics of bravery, loyalty, and trustworthiness into every aspect of his life, including his 30 years as a Paramedic/Fireman. He started out at the Sitka Fire Department in Sitka, Alaska and worked primarily at Capital City Fire/Rescue in Juneau, Alaska, ending with Northern Lakes Fire District in Rathdrum, and Hayden, Idaho. In those years of service, he saved countless lives and was considered an unspoken hero in his own right.
Describing the life and accomplishments of Dennis proves an easy task compared to that of describing his character, personality and the impact he had on others. Dennis knew no strangers. He possessed a unique, welcoming charm that drew people to him. He easily turned mere acquaintances to friends, and friends into lifelong family members. Regardless of the length of time you knew him, he was sure to touch your life, and we are all a little better for knowing him. To understand who Dennis was, you must look into the eyes of the wife he loved, the children he raised and into the heart of the stories told by his many beloved friends, family and brothers of the fire department. To say he will be missed isn't sufficient.
He is survived by the love of his life, Cristy (Cook) Grawcock, daughter, Rachel Tai and son, Maxx Theron, brothers Patrick (Anne) and Brian (Becky), nieces and nephews Lee, Dustin, Kodi, Chloe and Cooper, along with the Fire Department Brotherhood.
Please visit Dennis' online memorial at and sign the guestbook. Memorials may be made to the family at the Dennis Grawcock Memorial Fund, c/o Panhandle Bank, PO Box 1367, Rathdrum, ID 83858. Festivities to follow in the Spring.
