Denny H Green, 74 passed away at home on September 29, 2011. Denny was born in Seattle, WA April 4, 1937. His parents brought him to Juneau when he was 2 years old. He attended Capitol School for elementary school and went to Woods School in Langhorne, PA for about two years for special training for his C.P. condition. When he returned to Juneau, he was not allowed attend high school so he began working in the
kitchen so he could continue to have contact with his friends. Later, his father put him to work for the Alaska Steamship Company sorting freight slips. After he alphabetized the bills, he would walk through town and let people know what freight was arriving and what was back ordered. He began working for the Department of Agriculture (Forest Service) in 1964 and retired in 1986.
Denny traveled extensively with his parents by train, plane and cruise ship all over the world missing only China and France. He made many trips across Canada and the United States with his friends, Bruce & Judith Morley. He also enjoyed trips to Hawaii, California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon and Arizona with his housemates and caregivers from Northland REACH Assisted Living Home. His love of travel was only trumped by his love of fine cuisine. Denny was always up for a good meal at a fine restaurant, or even not so fine a restaurant.
Denny is survived by his housemates at Northland REACH Assisted Living Home and the devoted care givers in the home, long time guardians and friends, Bruce and Judith Morley and their daughter, Dominique, high school friends and long time lunch mates, Elton Engstrom and Ralph Swap, and cousins Kurt, Bobby and Joy Frankenfield.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry E. Green, mother, Elizabeth K Green, aunt, Dorothy Frankenfield, and cousin, Robert Frankenfield.
A memorial service will be held at Northern Light United Church at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 22, 2011. Reception to follow.
