Dirk Dunlay Lovig, 62, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Douglas, Alaska on January 4th, 2016. Dirk is survived by his partner Mary Christine "Chris" Wilcox; children, Kelsey Lovig and Leif Lovig; daughter-in-law Kay O'Meara Lovig; grandchildren, Chloe Lovig and Natalie Lovig; and nieces Lydia Lovig, Emilie Lovig, Erin Lovig, and Bryna Lovig. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Lovig; mother, Patricia Edinger; and brother, Charles "Chip" Lovig.

Dirk was a true masonry artisan, having completed such prominent public works as the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center (Juneau, AK) and Grand Canyon East Entrance (Grand Canyon, AZ). He was the owner and president of Alaska Stone and Concrete Inc. (est. 1993), one of the premier masonry contracting companies in southeast Alaska.

Dirk was a generous person who demonstrated a deep concern and compassion towards people. He held matters of societal progress and personal freedoms at the helm of his moral compass. He served as an unwavering example of hard work and integrity to his family and community. He was an avid skier, accomplished guitarist, and football fan who loved sharing his passions with those who were closest to him.

A celebration of Dirk's life was held on Saturday, January 9th at Alaskan Memorial Park and Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Alaska Lighthouse Association (PO box 240149 Douglas, AK 99824).
