Live-long Juneau resident Harold Johann Martin passed away November 5, 2016, in Seattle, Washington. He was born May 25, 1941, to Elizabeth Samato Martin and Arthur J. Martin. He was born into the Raven Dog Salmon Clan. He is survived by his son Aaron J. Martin of California and granddaughters Taylor Ann Paige Sire, Kaia Nicole Martin, and Haili Savannah Martin; brothers Al Martin of California and Dennis Martin of Wasilla, Alaska; sisters Darlene M. Tyson of Juneau and Beverly Licon of Seattle, Washington; cousins Harry, Jerry, and James Samato, Loretta (Tom) Pittman, Harriet Silva, Bettyann Jim, Mary and Margie Samato. He was preceded in death by brothers Lyle and Rusty Martin and sister Joan England. He had numerous nieces and nephews.
After Harold graduated from high school he served as paratrooper in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne from 1964 to 1968. He worked various jobs in construction and as a laborer, and was a brilliant Native carver specializing in Tlingit paddles. He was a good poker player and a passionate animal lover.
His niece Tina Eckles cared for Harold in Juneau and during his last days in Seattle. She was very special to him. Thank you Tina and Bobby Jack.
