Harold Leonard Wheaton Sr. passed away in Juneau, Alaska at Wild Flower Court on December 20, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Wrangell on December 20, 1918, son of Hannah Klondike Choquette and Charles Leonard Wheaton. His grandfather was Chief Shakes from Wrangell.

In his lifetime, Harold Sr. worked around much of Southeast Alaska. His occupations included being a fisherman, driving for Royal Blue, Alaska Laundry and Taku Taxi. He also worked at the AJ Mine, the Juneau City Docks, and finally retired from the State of Alaska, Department of Health and Social Services, mail room. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5559, serving as the post commander for three terms. Harold was also a veteran, serving in World War ll.

Harold's favorite passion was fishing. He could always be found somewhere in the Juneau area trying to catch the big one. While he entered many derby's, he rarely placed, and was even beat out of the top slot for being the eldest fisherman to turn a fish in (someone 3 months older than him won that honor).

He is survived by his daughter, Julie Ann David and Jim Lefebvreof Juneau, sons, Harvey F. Wheaton of Juneau, Charles L. Wheaton of Juneau and Harold L. Wheaton Jr. of Hoover, Alabama. Grandchildren include Edward D. Karlson of Seattle, Yvette Fitzjarrald of Seattle, Raymon D. Emel of Utah, Gail M. Emel-Thompson of Nevada. Christina M. Wheaton, Kevin Wheaton, Patrick Wheaton, and Betsy Davey all of Juneau. Jessica Garcia of Seattle, WA., Destiny Mathews-Beach of Juneau, Jolene Killian of Juneau. Brandon L. Wheaton of Juneau, Jared L. Wheaton of Mesa AZ., Amanda M. Wheaton of Mesa AZ. Nephew Mike Thompson of Anchorage and niece Diana McCracken of Ewing, MO. Step children Karlene John, Kathy John and Merle Johnson, Virginia John-Daniels, Pete John Jr.,Melody Campbell all of Juneau. Great neices Jennifer Thompson of Anchorage and Ryan Thompson of Seattle, WA. Tribally adopted son Mike Phelps. Also many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Harold Sr. was preceded in death by his grandfather Buck Choquette, his mother Hannah Choquette, his father Charles Wheaton, sisters Hannah Ellis Lois Thompson (Honey Lou) and Jean McKee, his wife Ester W.Wheaton, his daughter Hannah M. Wheaton and his great-grandson Jeremiah Wheaton.

Honorary pallbearers are Mark Lacey, Tim Armstrong, Mike Phelps, Patrick Wheaton, Kevin Wheaton, Julie Ann David, Christina Wheaton and Brandon Wheaton.
Memorial services will be held on December 29th, 2011, 7PM at Glacier Valley Church of God, 8497 Thunder Mtn. Rd. (phone 789-3605), Associate Pastor Jerry Bennett presiding, with a reception following. Per Harold Sr.'s request, his cremated remains will be released at his favorite fishing spot at a later date.

A 40 day party will be held January 29, 2012 at a location and time not yet set.
