Helen Betty Fleming
September 24, 1925 – August 3, 2015

On a beautiful sunny day, August 3, 2015, Helen Betty Fleming passed away peacefully at the Juneau Pioneer Home with her daughter Wanda and her special friends surrounding her with love. Her faith in the Lord made the transition very peaceful.
Helen was born on September 24, 1925, in Trinidad, Colorado. Helen met the love of her life, Roy Raymond Fleming and after a very short engagement they were married on June 5, 1949, in Raton, NM. For their honeymoon, they went to the County 4-H Agent convention in Las Cruses, NM. They lived in many places in NM, going where Roy's work required. Helen was a great help to her husband with 4-H events and gatherings. They had two daughters, Wanda and Nancy. After Roy's retirement they lived in Raton, NM where she took care of her Mom and Dad. She loved Alaska and vacationed there 13 times. So after the deaths of her husband and parents, Helen decided to move to Alaska in 1998 to live with her daughter, where she remained for the rest of her life.

Helen and Wanda had many adventurers, including trips to Branson, Mo., Disney World, Boston, Skagway, Sitka and Glacier Bay. She loved traveling to visit family. One of her favorite trips was a voyage through Southeast Alaska waters on the M.V. Empress of the North. Her daughter Nancy and grandchildren came to Alaska many times and Mom thoroughly enjoyed having them here. Many nights they would play Skip-Bo or another game which was enjoyed by all. She loved watching Professional Bull Riding and got to know the names of the riders and the bulls. She even helped enter a name for a bull (Devil's Club), but it was not chosen. She would watch Mariners Baseball and record the scores so that she could tell Wanda when she got home from work.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Roy Raymond Fleming (1980), her father George Marvin Semler (1974), and her mother Myrtle Ollie Semler (1997). She is survived by her sister MaryLou Thorn of Mesa, AZ and her family, brother and sister-in-law Albert and Janice Semler of Yukon, OK., and their family, daughter Wanda Fleming of Douglas, AK., daughter Nancy Fleming Ashworth and husband Matt of Farmington, NM., grandson Randy Ashworth of Farmington, NM., granddaughter Dawn Marie Russell and her husband Gary Steven Russell of the Tucson, AZ area and many friends from throughout Alaska and the Lower 48.

A Celebration of Life will be held 3:00pm., August 22, 2015 at the Church of Christ located on 8755 Trinity Drive, with a time for food and sharing of stories afterward. Everyone is invited to celebrate Helen's life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Juneau Church of Christ Handicap Restroom Remodel at 8755 Trinity Drive, Juneau, AK 99801 or to a .
Even though she lived a very short time at the Juneau Pioneer Home, she was getting to know the residents and the staff and she loved them dearly.

Helen's family thanks everyone at the Pioneer Home for the care and comfort they provided while she was there. Thank you to Dr. Anne Standerwick and staff at the Southeast Medical Clinic for taking such good care of Mom during the last 17 years.

Thank you to everyone who helped our mother make such a peaceful transition into the arms of Jesus.
