IRAKO VIU MAKA went home to be with our Heavenly Father on July 14th, 2011, after a courageous fight with brain cancer. Viu was born to parents, Tevita & Ofa Maka, on February 9th, 1974, in the village of Folaha, Tonga. The family moved to Oahu, Hawaii in 1987. Viu married the love of his life, Aliitasi Atoaaana Tanuvasa on March 24th, 1994, in Laie, Hawaii. Viu, Atoa and their children relocated to Juneau, Alaska, in December 2001, and were eventually joined by several other members of the Maka family.

Viu "Da Roc" was exactly that, he was the rock of his family and enjoyed nothing more than to spend time with the people he loved. "Families are forever."

Viu is survived by wife, Aliitasi Atoaaana Maka; children, Marlena Sese Tanuvasa Maka, Tevita Mahe Maka Jr., Lechoa Noelani Taiyana Maka & Malakai Viu Jr. Maka; parents, Tevita & Ofa Maka; brothers; Feleti Maka & Tevita Kafoa Maka; sisters, Emalaine Kelepi, Melesii Tuitupou, and Tango Toli.

The Apo (traditional Tongan wake) will be held at the Alaskan Memorial Park (3839 N. Riverside Dr.) on Friday, July 22nd, from 6PM-10PM.

A memorial service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (5100 Glacier Hwy.) on Saturday, July 23rd, from 8AM-10AM for family and friends, with the public invited to join for the memorial service from 10AM-12PM.

*By love you are remembered, and in memory you will live.*
