Irene Loling Sarabia Lampe (1925 - 2011)


Irene Loling Sarabia Lampe was born June 25, 1925 in Port Althorp, Alaska. She died July 4, 2011 at age 86. Her parents were Mary Wilson Brown Sarabia and Juan Sarabia. She was Raven Takdeintaan from Kaa Shaayi Hit and Tax' Hit of Hoonah and Kaagwaantaan yadi and Kaagwaantaan dachxan. Irene married William B. Lampe August 1955.

She attended Hoonah Elementary School, was valedictorian at Sheldon Jackson High School in 1948, and attended Juneau-Douglas Community College. She worked for the State of Alaska Departments of Fish & Game, Health & Social Services, Labor, Revenue, and Tlingit Haida Central Council.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband and son, Robert Allen "Bunny" Lampe. She is survived by children, Richard Lampe, Clarissa Rizal, Tim Lampe, Irene Jean Lampe, and Deanna Lampe; daughter-in-law Sarah Lampe; grandchildren, Amber and Brooke Lampe, Kahlil Hudson, Lily Hope, and Ursala Hudson; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Hope, Violet Hudson, and Amelie Haas; sister-in-law Helen Sarabia and family; Takdeintaan Mills and Belarde families; extended families of the Takdeintaan Head House; and many friends.

Memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 12 at Tlingit and Haida Community Building, 3625 Hospital Drive in Juneau. Cards may be sent to Deanna Lampe, 350 Irwin St. #411, Juneau, AK 99801.
