James "Jibo" Anthony White, Xaak eesh died August 14, 2012 in Hoonah, Alaska.
He was born a survivor of a twin birth on November 2, 1954 to Lily and Jacob White Sr. in Juneau, Alaska. James was an Eagle, a proud Chookaneidí of Naanaa Hít (Upper Inlet House). He was the grandchild of the Shan koo keitee, Thunderbird.
James was affectionately called Jim Boy by his grandmother Eliza, which was later shortened to "Jibo" by his siblings. He is a graduate of Hoonah High School, class of 1973. That same year, he played in the Juneau Gold Medal Tournament.
Jamesí love of basketball continued well into his adult life. He worked as a commercial ?sherman, ?shing with his nephew Joey, his beloved brothers and his father on the F/V Mermaid. He also enjoyed employment as a longshoreman with SE Stevedoring and at the Hoonah Cold Storage. James moved to Juneau with his wife when his daughter was born in 1977 where he resided for about 3 years. He is a shareholder of Huna Totem Corporation and Sealaska Corporation.
James is survived by his wife Kathleen, daughter Sharon Dalton and granddaughter Tori Dalton, his parents Jacob and Lily White, brother Jacob White Jr., sister Jacqueline Gray and adopted siblings Victoria Watkins, Martha Chanell, Randall Johnson, and Mary Rudolph. Aunt Mabel Lawrence and Uncle Jerry (Tina) White, Sr., adopted brother Ernest Hillman, Jr. Mother-in-law Marlene Sternberg. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brothers Joseph "Jo Jo" White Sr., Irving White, James White (died at infancy), Sister Sharon White (died at infancy), Cousin John "Chunny" Hinchman Jr., niece Janice Ann White, grandparents Eliza and JC Johnson and Annie and Joseph White.
Pallbearers – Eric Morrison, Bill Wolfe, Bernard Wolfe, John Lindstrom, Robert Starbard, Willis Marvin and Robert Leuband.
Honorary Pallbearers – Lillian Hillman, Janie Eldemar, Rudy Isturis, Herman Davis, Ethel McKinen, Loretta Ness, Wilma Bacon, John James Roberta Wolfe, Jean Hill, Karen Hinchman, Jerald Hinchman, Adam Greenwald, Marlene Johnson, Kenneth Grant, Ronald Williams, Benjamin Benson, Frank Wright Jr., and John Martin Sr.
Memorial Service was held at the Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall on Friday August 17, 2012, and the burial was Saturday August 18, 2012 at Evergreen Cemetery, where he will lie next to his brother Irving.
