Juneau resident James (Jim) O'Connor died July 25, 2015 at the Juneau Pioneer Home in Juneau, Alaska. He was 83. He was born on June 8, 1932 in Anchorage and was a life-long Alaska resident except for short spell outside in Southern California. Jim grew up between Anchorage and Fairbanks but he and his family - father Charles "Jack" O'Connor, brother Jack and sister Edna moved to Juneau where he spent most of his youth exploring the channels and mountains around the city.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Jo Ann in 2007. Jim and Jo Ann were known for their love of fishing, animals and socializing with friends. They loved their time on the water onboard the Charlie Chan. Jim had a big heart especially for his dogs and cats. He loved to tell a story and had a great sense of humor. Wherever he was, he made friends and had a good time.
He is survived by his children Cheri O'Connor of Pauma Valley, CA, Jack O'Connor of Woodstock, GA and Jim O'Connor of Yucca Valley, CA; niece Tricia O'Connor and her husband Keith Rush of Jackson, WY; sister in law Ellie Schroeder of Juneau and many other nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Moose Family Lodge on Saturday December 5 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gastineau Humane Society.
