James R Beima (1924 - 2011)


James R. Beima
James R. Beima died Dec. 8, 2011 in Vancouver, Wash. He was 87.
He was born Jan. 23, 1924 to John and Vera Beima in Vancouver. He served on
the USS Wright during World War II. He graduated from Lewis and Clark
College, received a master's degree at the University of Idaho, and a Ph.D.
from the University of Kentucky.
In 1966 he moved to Juneau, where he worked for the Department of Education
until his retirement. In 1967 he married Phyllis Albright Davis, and they
began raising two boys, Charlie and Paul. He was dedicated to vocational
education and adult basic education and traveled throughout Alaska setting
up programs in several high schools.
Beima loved to fish and spent many hours catching salmon and halibut.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, and his brother, John Beima.
He is survived by his sister, Phyllis Miller of Springfield, Ore.; brother
Joe Beima of Venice, Fla.; his children Jon Beima of Vancouver; Debbie
Murphy of Ashland, Ore.; Nancy Myklebust of Lewiston, Idaho; Charlie Beima
of Ellettsville, Ind.; Paul Beima of Venice, Fla. and many other family
A memorial service will be held at Columbia Presbyterian Church in Vancouver
on Dec. 30 at 10:30 a.m.
