Joseph George Junker of Nelchina, Alaska passed away January 25, 2013 at Hospice of the Valley Sherman Home, Phoenix, Arizona after a long hard battle with cancer.
Joseph was born April 25, 1951 in Yakima, Washington and came to Anchorage in 1976. In February 1977 he married Melanie Olmstead Huffman and they moved to Juneau in 1979. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 302 retiring in 2002 from working road construction in Southeast Alaska. In May of 2003 they moved to Nelchina where he was Tazlina District Manager for Alaska DOT in Glennallen, retiring in 2006. He loved flying his home built Murphy Rebel airplane, golfing, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Melanie, Nelchina. Children: Arianne Dumont, Haines; Megan Ferguson (Adam), Palmer; Joey Junker, Anchorage; Heidi Huffman and Gretchen Watts (Scott), Juneau; Chris Huffman (Tracy), Hermiston, OR. Grandchildren: Emma and Ally Ferguson, Palmer; Jesse Vaughn, Levi and Cassandra Fidler, Isabelle, Abby, and Nicholas Watts, Juneau; Vicki Huffman Martin (Micah), Cherry Point, NC; Cheyenne, Kaylene, and Wyatt Huffman, Hermiston, OR. Great Grandchildren: Samantha Fidler Veter, Juneau; Serenity and Athena Martin, Cherry Point, NC. Sister: Judith Loomis (Scott), Charlotte, NC.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Robert William and Rosemary Hargreaves Junker and infant sister, Janet Junker of Yakima, WA.
He also had a biological connection with the family of Marion Dickson, also deceased.
An informal celebration of Joseph's life will be held in his Nelchina hangar on June 22, 2013 beginning at 1:00 pm.
