Larry Rickards died on May 2, 2012 from the devastations of Alzheimer's disease. Born in Philadelphia on April 4, 1950, he shared his birthday with his sister Nancy who arrived on the same date in 1953. His older brother William was the leader of all things fun, and the 3 children of Robert and Kathryn Rickards grew up in Springfield, PA, camping, hiking, hunting and fishing. Larry graduated from Colorado State University in wildlife management and worked summers at one of the first Youth Conservation Corps camps at Catoctin Mountain Park in Maryland where he met his future bride, Betsy (Avadna) Coghill, in 1971. They married in 1977 and both worked for the US Forest Service in Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Alaska. Larry's family will be forever grateful to the Forest Service Family and many Friends for their help and support over the years.

Larry passed on his kind spirit and gentle manner to his children, Austin and Whitney, who have fond memories of camping, hiking, canoeing, making pizza dough, and learning about ecosystems. The family welcomed Timothy Wilde in 2011 when he and Whitney married. Larry's father, Robert, passed away last September, but the rest of his immediate family survives. A celebration of Larry's life will take place at a later date.
