Loraine "Peggy" Janes


Loraine (Peggy) Janes passed away
at home on Monday June 11, 2012
with her beloved companion Howard
Lockwood at her side. Peggy was
born August 12, 1922 in Compton,
California to Delos and Lucille Jones.
She graduated from UCLA in 1945
and married Robert Janes. They
spent their ?rst two years in Berkeley,
California as Bob ?nished his Forester
degree from The University of Berkeley. They spent the next 10 years on
ranger stations throughout California and began their family of three children
while living in the remote stations. The family moved to Juneau 47 years
ago in 1965.
Peggy was an elementary teacher and taught at Gastineau Elementary School
for many years. She loved children and after retirement she volunteered for
the Juneau Schools. She was an active outdoor person; she skied, hiked,
biked and water skied. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother
Lewis Jones, her sisters Joan Ward and Jean Grotewold. She is survived by
her twin sister, Betty Meng; her children Bob (Dawn) Janes, Bill (Annie) Janes,
Kathy (Jeff) Jeffers; her grandchildren Sean (Becky) Janes, Nathan (Holly)
Janes, Nicolas Haws, the twins Robie and Katie Janes; her great grandchil-
dren Sage, Adler, Skyler, Connor; her beloved companion of 40 years, Howard
Lockwood, and her ?rst husband and dear friend Robert Janes; as well as
several extended family members from the Wolfe, Ford, Barneck & Lockwood
Her ashes will be taken to Colt Island where she spent many happy summers
with family and friends. Family condolences can be sent to the home of Bob
Janes and Dawn Wolfe, at 4478 Mountainside Drive, Juneau, AK 99801.
