Marcella Stutte passed away on January 31st at the Juneau Pioneer Home. She had lived 94 years, the last 63 in Alaska. Marcella was born in Canada in 1922 and moved to Portland, Oregon with her parents when she was a child. It was there, at the age of 14, that she met her future husband, Robert (Bob).
They married in October of 1944 and a son, Robert, was born there in October 1945. After Bob was discharged from the Navy they moved to Juneau, where Bob joined his father in the construction trade. A daughter, Kaysa, was born in Juneau in 1951.
Over the years Marcella participated in many organizations including Garden Club, PEO, Retired State Workers, and volunteered at the Douglas Senior Center. The one activity that Marcella loved more than any other was her art – drawing, watercolors, and pastels. She attended many art classes at UAS and met many people in those classes and through her volunteering that have remained her cherished friends over the years.
Marcella was preceded in death by her husband in 2012, and daughter in law, Darlene in 2014. She is survived by her son Robert, and his three children Nicole (Henry) and their children Spencer and Reese, Alyssa (Tyge), and Lucas; as well as her daughter, Kaysa Korpela, her two daughters Kelsey and Leyla (Rick) and their children Porter, Ever, and Doryn.
Marcella was loved by, and will be missed by, many friends and her family. No service will be held per Marcella's wishes, but a Celebration of Life will be held at the Wharf's Hanger ballroom on Sunday, February 12th from 2pm to 6pm. Please join the family there to celebrate Marcella's life. Notes of condolence can be sent to the family c/o Kaysa Korpela, 4031 N. Dougas Hwy. #B, Juneau 99801.
