Mikell Jane Lucero passed away September 10, 2013, after a 26-year fight with multiple sclerosis -- a disease she managed with grace and humor. Mikell was born April 19, 1937, in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Richard and Ethel Penwarden. She was subsequently blessed with two beautiful sisters, Jill Bryson and Gerry Macomber.
Mikell moved with her family to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1952. She married and moved from Alaska for several years. In 1964, Mikell moved back to Alaska permanetly with her four adorable children, Rick, Marcia, Karen and Randy Ford. She married Frank Palmer and was blessed with Bill Palmer. Later in her life she married Roland Lucero, her friend, companion, husband and eventually caretaker.
Mikell was preceded in death by her mother and father; sister, Sybil; daughter, Marcia Ford; son, Bill Palmer; and granddaughter, Jeannie.
Mikell's memory will live on with her husband, Roland; her sons, Ricky and Randy Ford of Juneau; daughter, Karen of Post Falls, Idaho; her grandchildren Dennis, Casey, Heidi, Kenna, Heidy, Tony, Katie, Evan, Bill, Lisa and Linda; four great grandchildren; her sisters; and nieces and nephews.
The family want to thank Dr. Valentine and staff of Valley Medical Care; Priority Health Care; Hospice and Health Care of Juneau; Bartlett Emergency Room; and her friends Judy Robinson and Lorna Kent.
