Nancy Leanne Gustavson, formerly of Juneau, died January 3, 2012, at her home in Sitka. She had battled cancer for over three years. She was 69.

Nancy was born March 11, 1942, in Glendale California. After receiving her master's in library science from USC, she started her long career in libraries, beginning at the University of British Columbia. In 1969, after touring Alaska and liking what she saw, she moved to Juneau to work at the Alaska State Library. She left, in the early 70s, to work at the University of California for a few years. She returned to Juneau and began work at the Juneau Public Library, under Dale DeArmond. When DeArmond retired in 1979, Nancy became the head librarian. In 1985, she accepted the head librarian job at Kettleson Memorial Library in Sitka. After 16 years of very successful leadership, she retired in 2001.

Nancy was active in the First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon, was a member of Soroptimist International of Sitka, and was a longtime volunteer at the Sitka Animal Shelter. She enjoyed reading, gardening, travel, sewing, and loved her cats.

Nancy was intelligent and kind, she was a good, true friend to many. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Deppa, of Sitka; her brothers, Phil Gustavson and his wife Sarah, of Santa Ana, CA, Rus Gustavson, and his wife, Trinette, of Eureka, CA; her sister, Lesley Ritter, and her husband, Jake, of Crescent City, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

You may reach Jerry Deppa at 1716 Edgecumbe Dr., Sitka, AK 99835
