Former Juneau resident, Naomi G Lowell, 89, passed away in Lacey, Washington on October 28, 2016.
Naomi was born in Tecumseh, Nebraska on October 21, 1927, the fourteenth child of David and Grace Gamet. She grew up in Nebraska and Oregon where her father was employed as a blacksmith and later as a welder. She graduated from high school in Cottage Grove, Oregon in 1944.
Naomi was married to John Lowell in Seattle, Washington on September 11, 1948. They were married and shared their love and companionship for 67 1/2 years at the time of John's passing this past February. They had two sons, Steve and Jim.
Naomi was primarily a homemaker but periodically worked outside the home in various office positions with the Alaska territorial government and the State of Alaska. During the summers, when their children were young, she and John would pack up the family and relocate to the remote highway projects John was involved in with the Alaska Road Commission and Bureau of Public Roads.
In their retirement years, Naomi and John spent time with their family and friends at their cabin site, "Hoot N Holler", in Idaho Inlet near Elfin Cove, Alaska. They also enjoyed the many adventures they had in their Airstream trailer around the lower 48. Naomi especially cherished the role of grandma to her five grandchildren.
Naomi is survived by her son Jim and his wife Suzi, daughter-in-law Chris, grandchildren David (Abby), Stephanie (Joel), Christy (Nate), Sarah and Mallory. She is also survived by five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving her are her sisters Joyce and Janet.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John, her oldest son Steve, thirteen siblings and one step sister.
In accordance with Naomi's wishes, there will be no memorial service and she will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, Washington. The family can be reached at 6606 North Douglas Highway, Juneau, AK 99801.
