Surrounded by his loved ones, Raphael Michael Betit (age 61), died peacefully at home on September 29th, in Juneau, Alaska. He was born on March 26, 1956, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia to Ethel (Letourneau) and Joseph W. Betit, LTC, USA, Retired. He graduated from Montpelier High School in 1974, and attended Bangor Theological Seminary, University of Alaska Southeast, and the Lutheran Bible Institute, prior to joining The National Guard. Throughout his life, Raphael traveled the world, living in many different places including Panama, Massachusetts, New York, Vermont, Virginia, Washington D.C., Canada, and Alaska. On September 15, 1991, he married Ana Maria Orihuela Silva and they were happily married for 26 years. Raphael worked for many years and especially enjoyed his job at Gastineau Human Services. He loved bringing family and friends together with food and sharing The Word of God. He was a warrior of God who loved his family fiercely. He is survived by his wife Ana Betit and his two children Raphael and Kristen Betit. A memorial service for Raphael will be held Sunday, October 22nd, at 3:00 pm at Faith Lutheran Church, Juneau, Alaska. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Montpelier, Vermont.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Cancer Connection or Hospice and Home Care of Juneau. The family wishes to thank Raphael's very special caregiving team, Valley Medical Care staff and Dr. Kim, for their love and support.
