Robert H. Houtary of Juneau Alaska died unexpectedly on September 7, 2017. Cause of death is not known at this time, but it is the family's belief that his big, old heart just gave out.
Funeral Mass will be said Monday Oct. 2, 2017 at 5:30 pm at the National Shrine of St. Therese in Juneau Alaska; Internment will be in the Columbarium at the Shrine, with Reception to follow in the Shrine Lodge. Family also plans a later bonfire and memorial at their favorite camping location.
Rob was a beloved Father, Friend, and Brother. A guy with a big heart who accepted everyone and would help if he could. Even when he fell on hard times and had nothing of his own, he went out of his way to help his friends, to fix a car, run them around for errands, and help in any way he could.
He loved to crack jokes and be with his boys; fishing, camping, fixing cars or just hanging out. As he wrote on his Facebook page on August 26, 2017:
I'm glad I've been where I've been. I regret nothing I have done, and I'm glad I have less stuff to cart around. I sleep good because I make my decisions, I don't choose someone else's. The days that are hard and fighting against me. I know I'm going in the right direction. God thank you for giving me patients, and the grace that I would have never found without you."
It is the family's firm belief that he is with Jesus and our loved ones in heaven, watching over us as a great big hearted angel. He is waiting for us to finish our work here and see him again.
He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Houtary, mother Jean Houtary, brother Ken Houtary and numerous grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
He is survived by his beloved sons Preston Houtary (18), Payton Houtary (14) (Juneau Alaska), daughter of heart Megan Arnold (Las Vegas, NV), sister Leora Houtary (Juneau, Alaska),Nephew Josh Rauwolf (Juneau, Alaska), ex-wife Nancy Jo (Craig, Alaska); numerous Houtary and Strom cousins, aunts, uncles in Ketchikan Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Virginia, and more friends than can be counted here in Juneau, Ketchikan, Anchorage.
In lieu of flowers please consider providing any financial assistance to help pay for the final cremation and set aside money for the future of his two sons.
