Rose was born in Consolacion, Leyte, Philippines. She was the oldest of 11 siblings. During WWII she spent 2 years living in a mountain cave during the Japanese occupation. During this time she could only leave occasionally at night to go to the beach to gather food. After the war she met her husband Nicomedes "Nic" Laboca, a US war veteran and they had seven children Adelfa, Eli, Wilma "Maya", Roni, Neri, Charles and Liza.
In 1971, they moved to Stockton CA. When the kids were all grown, Rose and Nic moved back to their beloved Philippines where they stayed until 1998 when Nic passed on. Rose then moved to Juneau to be closer to her Kids and grandchildren. In 2016 Rose moved back to the Leyte where she still owned a house.
Rose loved to garden and had incredible flowers where ever she lived. She was also very active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church her whole life. Here in Juneau she was very often the greeter at the front door so she could meet all the new visitors. Family always came first with Rose as she and Nic often went without while their children were young and money was tight. She enjoyed spending time with all her children and grandchildren who all lovingly referred to her as Mamay.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband Nic and 9 of her siblings. She is survived by her sister Leah at Sogod Leyte; Daughter Adelfa Chaney of Modesto CA; Son Eli Laboca of Stockton CA, and his wife and kids Malin, Bianca, Eli Jr; Daughter Maya Ypon of Juneau, and her husband and kids Dean, Roy, Wes; Son Roni Laboca of Juneau, and his wife and kids Virginia, Roni Paul, Candice, Joshua; Son Neri Laboca of Leyte Philippines, and his wife and kids Cerri Jo, Joseph, Jacqualyn; Son Charles Laboca of Juneau and his wife and kids Evangeline Kimmy, Jordan; and Daughter Liza Lowry of Juneau and her husband and kids Mick, Kenneth, Clint, Kyle. There are also many great grandchildren.
There will be a Funeral service in the Philippines and a Celebration of life here in Juneau at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Joshua Laboca, 1307 Belardi Dr, Juneau AK 99801 or Paypal account [email protected]. Please put "Mamay-Nanay" in the subject line. Your donations will be used to help build a small church near her home in the Philippines.
