Tony Rivera, 78, of Dalton, MN, died unexpectedly on Friday, April 8, 2016 at his home on Ten Mile Lake.

Tony was born December 2, 1937, to Phillip Rivera and Frances Schneider in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He graduated from Gowrie High School in 1956. Tony enlisted in the Navy that same year and proudly served his country aboard the USS Ranger. After active duty, Tony also served in the Navy Reserve. He married his high school sweetheart, Judy (Powers) in 1962.

From Iowa, Tony and Judy and their children, Tracy and Jill, traveled to Juneau, Alaska in 1973 to begin their lifetime adventure in The Last Frontier. Tony worked as a bank examiner for the State of Alaska's Dept of Commerce. Upon retirement in 1987, Tony then worked for the US Dept of Labor until 1991.

Tony enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and skiing. Tony was a member of the National Ski Patrol at the Eaglecrest Ski Area for several years.

In 1991, Tony and Judy moved down south to Ten Mile Lake near Dalton, MN. Tony was a great gardener and loved ice-fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Frances Schneider.

Tony is survived by his wife, Judy; his son Tracy (Kim) in Juneau, Alaska; his daughter, Jill, in Fargo, ND; his brother John of Omaha; his sisters Phyllis of Portland, OR and Velma of Colorado Springs, CO; and 2 grandsons and 3 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held April 12, 2016 at Ten Mile Lake. His ashes will be scattered at sea, off Juneau, Alaska.
