Walter E. Burkhardt died at his home in Haines, Alaska on Oct. 25, 2011 surrounded by family. He was born in Wendall Idaho in April 1925. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Ann Reischl of Juneau in May 1953. Retired from State of Alaska DF&G. Lived in Juneau until 1991 when they moved to Haines.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; and children Ralph, Charla Aurdal/Arv, Charles, Walter /Debbie and LuAnn Walker/Marc; Grandchildren, Jami Burkhardt, Stefanie Hodges/George, Chelsi Rasmussen/Justin, Walter Aurdal, Treva Madril, Jason Burkhardt, Jessica Burkhardt, Tonia Hanson/Todd, Samantha Smith, Jesse Smith, Sarah Smith, Shane Walker/Brooke and 10 great grandchildren; siblings Charlotte Kelley, David Burkhardt/Sandy, Carol Dague/Gordon and numerous nieces and nephews.

Celebration of life will be at a later date .
