William (Billy) Gabriel John, was born on March 29, 1931 in Hood Bay, Alaska. He walked into the forest on February 9, 2015 at his home in Angoon, Alaska. He was survived by his siblings Verna (John) Johnson, Bernard DeAsis, Milton DeAsis, Royal DeAsis, Timothy DeAsis and Alberta (DeAsis) Everson. His children Gabriel John, Gladys Jamestown and Karen Stokes, 15 Grandchildren and 33+ Great Grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his wife Elizabeth John, Father William John, Mother Lucy (Bell) DeAsis. His sister Mildred (John) Jones, Children Miranda (John) Petersen, Joycelyn John and Terrence John.

Billy took pride in his culture. It showed in his enjoyment of hunting and fishing, so much so that he was willing to teach the next generation. It has inspired others to follow his teachings. Many people have given him tribute for their success, they enjoyed his stories and are using his teachings in their life. Billy served in the US Army National Guard as a Senior Riflemen in the 148th Infantry from 1951 to 1957. He was an active member of his community helping build the ANB, one of their schools and continued on working as a construction worker to support his family. Many have thanked his children and grandchildren for his help in their tough times, leaving his home and kitchen open them.

The family would like to thank those who stepped forward and guided them in these tough times. Services took place in Angoon, Alaska on Thursday, February 19 and Friday February 20, 2015
