William (Bill) M. Newman, the patriarch of the Newman Family passed away at Bartlett Regional Hospital on September 9th, 2014 in Juneau, Alaska. Bill was born September 23, 1932 to Vernon and Edna Newman in Keavy, KY. Bill and Ruth drove up the Al-Can highway from Ohio in 1962, in a 1956 Ford with their 2 children Billy and Mick. They moved to Alaska so Bill could enjoy his passion for fishing and hunting. Bill worked for the city of Juneau when he first arrived. He began his fishing career with sports boats, then he moved up to commercial fishing for several years, doing both gill netting and trolling. He owned the Hobo, Trio II, Norma and Chan III. He was the owner of Newman's Plumbing and Heating for many years.

Bill and Ruth were both very active in the Juneau Gun Club for several years. Bill enjoyed his fall moose hunt in Chicken, Alaska. After retirement, Bill and Ruth became "snow-birds". They enjoyed getting into their motor home and going "south". A favorite place for them to spend the cold Alaskan winters was Quartzsite, Arizona. They enjoyed sitting around the campfire talking about the "good-ole days" all while befriending two roadrunners who Bill called "Go-duck" and "Crow-bar". Bill and his life-long sweetheart were married for 63 years. Bill and Ruth adored each other every day of their romantic love story. A commitment they both cherished, and the family did too.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Edna Newman, and his brother Jack and his sister Marlenia. Bill is survived by his best friend for life Ruth, his children Billy and his wife Melissa, Mick and his wife Rory. Grandchildren Aaron and Kim in Mesa, Arizona, Autumn and Chris Morton in South Jordan, Utah, Shannon Harrington in Joliet, Illinois, Will in Anchorage, Alaska and Brandon, Fairbanks, Alaska. And Great-Grandchildren William, Kairi, Jaden, Michael and Jameson. Condolences can be sent to the Newman Family at P.O. Box 32372 Juneau Alaska 99803. Services are pending at this time.
