Donna J. Prechel (DeeJ)
Donna J. Prechel (DeeJ), 63, passed away suddenly at her home in Butte, Montana in October. She had been suffering from lung infections and multiple health issues prior to leaving Alaska. She had recently retired, packed up her dog and belongings and moved to Butte to start the next chapter of her life. She was very excited for the adventure, and was looking forward to many years of quilting, walks with her dog, and making new friends – something that came easily with her warm personality.
DeeJ lived in California and Homer prior to starting her career with the State of Alaska in Dutch Harbor in 1997. She loved to dance, and taught country line dancing to her co-workers in the Department of Environmental Conservation at lunch time. She hen moved to the Department of Natural Resources Support Services Division in Juneau and worked as an Accounting Technician for the past 11 years. She continuously showed her generosity by quilting baby & retirement blankets.
Her dog Rosie has returned to Juneau and found a loving family to adopt her, thanks to the help and kindness of Diana Higgs.
DeeJ's genuine positive spirit will truly be missed. She brightened the room with her quirkiness and there was never a dull moment when she was around. We remember her for the kindness she would easily give to anyone and the care she gave to animals was inspiring.
She is survived by her son, Travis, his wife and two grandchildren. In remembrance of DeeJ, a gathering will take place at Auke Rec on Sunday, November 18th, at 1:30 pm. Donations in her honor can be made to the Gastineau Humane Society . Her dogs have always been the light of her life. She was also a generous contributor to Dog Town in Utah.
