Carrie Ann McMullen, 39, of Juneau, Alaska, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013. Born in Santa Rosa, California, on October 19, 1973, Carrie was raised by her parents, Michael and Nancy McMullen, in Douglas, Alaska, alongside her twin sister Christa, and younger brothers Chad and Craig. Carrie graduated from Juneau Douglas High School in 1992 and attended Skagit Community College and the University of Alaska Southeast.
In her youth, Carrie was actively involved in sports, the church youth group, and enjoyed working as a nanny. Fun loving and spontaneous, she had a love for the outdoors and was an avid skier, hiker, and runner. Vibrant and energetic, Carrie was passionate for her children, for social work, and she continuously advocated for others. Throughout her professional vocation, she tirelessly gave of herself to benefit those in need. She demonstrated a sincere heart for people through countless activities including: coaching Juneau's Special Olympic basketball team, mentoring youth at Juneau's Boys & Girls Club, instructing ski lessons at Eaglecrest, providing care to the elderly and individuals with disabilities, and offering aid to the Juneau School District's special education programs.
Carrie's life radiated unwavering compassion and generosity. As an organ and tissue donor, she continues a legacy of selfless giving by extending and improving the lives of others.
Carrie is survived by her parents Michael and Nancy McMullen; partner Tracy Campbell; children Taylor (14), Reilly (12), and Lannea Sutak (10); foster daughter Valarie Skelton (16); sisters Christa McMullen Hagan and Kimberly Williamson; brothers Chad and Craig McMullen, nieces and nephews Payton and Parker Hagan, and Brittany and Tyler Williamson; and many extended family and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 9 at 2:00 PM at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 740 West 10th Street, Juneau. Following the service, a celebration of life will be held at the Baranof Hotel.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Carrie A. McMullen Trust Fund at First Bank; contributions will directly benefit Carrie's children. Donations can also be made to the Mission Endowment Fund at Resurrection Lutheran Church.
