Mayor of Mechanicville, Term Limited!
...the self proclaimed "best mechanic in the free world has become the best mechanic in the universe"...
Michael Albert Frank died peacefully after a short illness, on September 16, 2013 in Juneau, Alaska with the love of his life, Becky holding his hand.
Michael was born in Sitka, Alaska on September 26, 1959 and grew up in Sitka and Juneau. He lived for a brief time in Washington State but returned home to Juneau a few years later. Mike was one of most non-homogenized, individualistic people put on the face of this earth. He had a generous spirit, an impish sense of humor, a great laugh, giving heart, and a vocal, unyielding conviction in that which he believed. He was protective of his family and generous with his vast knowledge of mechanics.
He was an exceptionally skilled mechanic who took pride in his knowledge and would help his customers at Channel Motors to learn to care for their engines properly. He would "supervise" and loan his shop and tools so those who wanted to, could fix their own engine with the aide of an expert. Those who have the privilege to have one of Mikes' rebuilt engines can attest to his skill and perfectionism with his engines. Mike wanted to make sure that no engine failed when the boater most needed it.
He was a much loved husband, father, friend, brother and son. He was loved by many and will be missed by more. He is preceded in death by his father Richard A. Frank and his Yellow Labrador Sandy. Mike is survived by his wife Becky Hinman-Frank, daughter Shannon Hinman, family dog Blue (and the damn cats), mother Mary Frank. sisters Mary Ellen Frank (Jerry Olson), Barbara Frank (Kate & Charlie), brothers Richard Frank and Pete Frank (Jay).
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Gastineau Humane Society Second Chance fund.
A Celebration of Life was held for Mike on his 54th birthday at Auke Bay Recreation area, site of his wedding reception and many childhood family picnics.
