David L. Beattie

Beattie, David L. 3/15/1957 - 2/10/2023 Kalamazoo David L. Beattie, age 65, died unexpectedly on February 10, 2023 as a result of being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Kalamazoo. David was the middle son of Hugh V. and Marian R. Beattie of Portage, MI, who preceded their son in death. He is survived by his two brothers, Hugh A. Beattie (wife Vicki) of Naperville, IL and Daniel G. Beattie (wife Genevieve) of Portage, MI, along with several nieces and nephews. David was born in Medina, Ohio on March 15, 1957. He moved to Portage, MI with his family and attended Portage schools, graduating from Portage Northern High School. He enjoyed music and Boy Scout activities while growing up and he earned the rank of Eagle while participating in the Boy Scouts. This is the highest rank in Scouting. David earned two degrees while attending Michigan State University and worked with several companies during his career. He enjoyed traveling to many destinations in the United States and he took numerous ocean cruises, visiting many countries throughout the world. David battled diabetes throughout his life, starting at age 19. He overcame many obstacles from diabetes to live an active life. Later in life, he had to retire from work to concentrate on his health. The Beattie family would encourage any donations to be submitted to the American Diabetes Association (diabetes.org), or a charity of your choice. David was always a giving person and in the end, he donated his organs and his tissue to hopefully help others in their lives. David will be laid to rest in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, next to his beloved parents. May he be in peace and join with our parents in heaven.
