Clarence Carroll Obituary

Carroll, Clarence "Spinner", 92, was born May 8, 1918, in Owensville, Missouri to Charles Edward and Ladoisha (Posey) Carroll and died April 17, 2011. A Union High School All State letterman in basketball and track, he graduated from St. Louis University. He was a WWII veteran, having served as a Lt. in the Infantry. During WWII he married Dolores Bartels on August 28, 1943, at Fort Benning, Georgia, and they have been married for 67 years. Spinner was the Manager of Franchise Services at Beech Aircraft. He was active in youth services with the Boy Scouts, JROTC and the Church of the Magdalen for 55 years. He was preceded in death by his son, Patrick James Carroll. He is survived by his wife, Dolores and three children: Bill (Joyce) Carroll, Dr. Paul (Debbie) Carroll and Beth (Dr. Whitney) VinZant, all of Wichita; greatly loved by his grandchildren, Sarah Klepper, Dr. Emily VinZant, Whit VinZant, Allyson VinZant, Ben VinZant, Lindsay Carroll, Daniel Carroll and Elizabeth Carroll; three great grandchildren, Cabrini and Bodie Klepper and Ella Maybee. He is survived by one brother, Kenneth Carroll of Marshfield, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Church of the Magdalen, 12626 E. 21st Street North, Wichita, Kansas 67206 and the Sons of the American Revolution (JROTC), 9323 E. Skinner, Wichita, KS 67207. Spinner will be forever loved and remembered as a brave American, loyal Husband, loving Dad and wise Grandfather with a heart of gold. The rosary will be at 7 pm, Tuesday, April 19th, at Downing and Lahey Mortuary and Funeral Mass at 10 am, Wednesday, April 20th, at the Church of the Magdalen. Additional services will be held at the Oltmann Funeral Home in Union, Missouri on Thursday, April 21st. Burial will be at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Union, Missouri. The Lappin family is sad to read this news. Our parents, George & Rose Marie were part of the Bridge Club that included the Carrolls for many years. I knew Paul from SEHS and my siblings, Bob/Jim/Margie knew his siblings. I worked briefly with Spinner at Beech before moving on to Dallas and now Atlanta. He was a great man in a wonderful family.
