My heart goes out to John's family. I was so sad to hear about John's passing. I knew "Clev" in college and we shared many great times at UCC. He was a sweet, funny, humble and generous guy who always had a big bear hug ready, whether as part of a friendly greeting or to provide comfort. He will be greatly missed by so many.

It was a pleasure to have the opportunity work and play with John in a variety of circumstances. We particularly remember his love of being in the company of family and friends while engaged in friendly (but always spirited) competition at a numerous YPO events. His smile said it all. We will miss John's enthusiasm for life.

It was my privilege to know and work with John for the last thirteen years. More than being a great boss/mentor, he was a great friend.
The highest compliment I can pay him is that he is one of the primary reasons why I chose to work for Commerce Bank and move my family to Kansas. His competitiveness, energy, intelligence, sense of humor and kindness were infectious. He was the kind of person you wanted to be around and bask in his glow.
The phrase from Psalm 23, "my cup overflows" has been on my mind. John's cup was overflowing with life and love for his family, friends and most anyone with whom he came in contact. I am a better man for having known John.

John was indeed a special man. I worked many years at the bank. Although we didn't cross paths often, he always greeted me by name! What a unique gift!! It always made me feel like I mattered.
Thank u for making a difference in my life, John. You will be sorely missed!

We are so saddened and sorry to hear of John's passing. We worked with him at Topeka West High School, Diane as a librarian and Doug as an Honors Sophomore English teacher. We remember John as kind, respectful, self-disciplined, intellectually curious, and very intelligent. Our prayers are with John and his family.

John was a very kind man. He took the time to cheerfully and respectfully help me straighten out a credit card problem on the credit card side of Commerce even though that function was not under his direct supervision. Saddened to hear he has left us.

Words are not adequate to express my condolences nor assuage a shared sense of loss.
Nor are words adequate to address the sincere gratitude I feel for having benefitted from knowing John so well during my Princeton and Kellogg years. He was a force of nature who favorably influenced the lives of many, including mine ... and for that I am forever thankful to him and to his parents & family. I feel sincerely blessed to call John my friend.
I am truly sorry my travel plans fell through and am unable to attend in-person Friday as planned to celebrate John's great life and profound impact on others, but please know my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I was privileged to know John in high school and early in college. The world has lost a true gentleman. I haven't seen John in 27 years, but I will always remember his smile, his intelligence, his kindness, and his drive to contribute....to show up...to be involved. Even when it was hard. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you embark upon the seemingly impossible act of laying him to rest. I lost my husband unexpectedly nearly 2 years ago. Life is just not supposed to happen this way. Especially to someone who meant so much to so many. John made the world a better place, and it feels a little more lonely now. I wish you strength as you try to figure things out. I hope you can find some peace in these words by the poet Mary Elizabeth Frye.

John, aka "Clev" was one of the great, positive forces in our circle of friends. He always had a smile, a kind word, and was eager and ready to mix it up in whatever was at hand, be it the 6am party or a charitable cause. He'll be making Heaven a better place until we all reunite. We love you and miss you good buddy.

I was one year ahead of John in college and we played the same position on the football team. I remember a tough competitor and a warm, proud Midwesterner. RIP John, I am certain you will be missed and remembered by many.

As a classmate and teammate of John at TWHS, it was clear from an early age that John was an exceptionally bright and talented individual. While I am deeply saddened to hear of John's untimely passing, I am happy to learn of his incredibly fruitful and impactful life.

I am so very saddened to hear about John's passing. Like Lynn, I fondly remember our grade school years at Most Pure Heart of Mary. While we didn't see each other a great deal after high school, I certainly followed John's academic and professional accomplishments. To say he was a nice guy is a tremendous understatement. He has left an amazing legacy. I wish peace and comfort for the Clevenger family today and in the difficult days ahead. Rest in peace, John.

Kristen and family...we join our Wichita family, Todd and Kim Anciaux, in expressing our sadness at John's passing. We have shared so many happy times with you all through Ella's friendship with Katey and we know how John loved our Nick! Kristen and the Clevenger Family, we are saddened to hear about the passing of John.
He was such an inspiration to everyone.
I remember our ongoing community interactions in Wichita community when we lived there and his great leadership during the time I (John R.) served on the Exploration Place board with him. Our community has lost a truly great advocate. I would categorize John as an acquaintance, a person I had met through business but didn't know well. I was always impressed that when he saw me at gatherings he made a point of speaking to me. In spite of the fact I didn't know him well I am saddened by his premature death. He radiated kindness and concern. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

John was a tremendous athlete, incredibly fun to hang out with, had a brilliant financial mind, and was a true friend. Fond memories of working together at Commerce Bank in St. Louis, playing in the co-ed softball tournament in Columbia, MO, parties at his first apartment in Clayton that was decorated better than any house I had ever been in, him falling in love with Kristen in front of our eyes, his stories of "Cottage Club" at Princeton, All You Can Eat Lasagna night at Rigazzi's on the Hill, playing golf with him, etc. Could go on and on. Kelly's and my heart ache for Kristen and the kids and we are crying hard thinking of him. To John's parents: You raised a true gentleman. That's the highest compliment I can give. I am so sorry.

I met John in the first grade and recall staying the night many times while we went to school together, usually at his house because it was more fun than mine! My sincere condolences and prayers for your family. I have great memories of working with John when I lived in Wichita. He was the board chair during my first year as executive director of Catholic Charities. He was supportive, positive, witty, and kind and I so appreciated his sense of humor! Together, we led the agency's strategic plan during that year. He was one of the best board members I have ever worked with. He so loved his wife and children and always smiled when he spoke of them. He made such an impact wherever he went. May God bless and comfort you. I will keep all of your in my prayers.
