Sterling Lunderman Obituary

MARION - Lunderman, Sterling Roy "Chuck", 90, died Wednesday at the St. Luke Hospital at Marion of a massive heart attack. He was born October 25, 1919 at LaRussell, MO, the son of Nicholas and Amanda Rankins Lunderman. Following graduation from high school, he attended John Brown University in Siloam Springs, AR. Sterling was drafted into the Army Air Corps and served from 1944-1946 and was deployed to Japan as an aircraft mechanic for six of those months. Shortly before leaving for the service, Sterling married Kathryn Mae Webster of Quinter, KS on November 26, 1944. They made their home in LaRussell, MO for two years where their first son K. Lee Lunderman was born at Carthage, MO. Sterling went to work for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita for 16 years as a methods engineer. When they lived in Wichita three more children were born, Duane, Les, and Joann. In 1962, the family moved to Marion to take ownership of the Western Auto Store. He retired in 1985 and spent his remaining years with his wife and family. He loved his grandchildren and followed their lives with great pleasure. He was a member of the Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion. Sterling and Kathryn would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Thursday, November 26, 2009. Sterling was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clay and Mack; son, Duane; and a grandson, Jeremy Roy Staley. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn of the home; sons, K. Lee Lunderman and wife Janet of Salina, Leslie Dale and wife Linda Lunderman of Valley Center; daughter, Joann and husband Ken Staley of Salina; grandsons, Michael Dale Lunderman of Wichita, Cody Lee and wife Katie Lunderman of Rexburg, ID, Craig Allen and wife Lisa Eddis of Lawrence, Kejjrey Phillip Haase of Mesquite, TX; granddaughters, Kendra Nichole Staley and Megan Kathryn Staley, both of Manhattan, KS, Marcilene Dawn and husband Michael Bowman of Wichita, and Stacy Marie Ashley of Valley Center. The service will be 2 p.m., Saturday at the Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion. Interment will be Monday, November 30, at 11 a.m., at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita with Military Honors. Visitation will be Friday evening from 7-8:30 p.m., at Zeiner Funeral Home of Marion. A memorial has been established with the Eastmoor U.M. Church.

So sorry for your loss. I will always remember him in the western auto store, it was so much fun to go in there, and such a good friend he was to my grandparents, Bud & Verna & all of us. You are in our prayers

Grandma,
I am so sorry that I was not there. I will be there Friday, Saturday and of Course Monday! I love you so much and I will forever miss Grandpa.. I will miss me, Kendra and Megan "Fixin" Grandpas hair. I am So glad that my kids was blessed to have met such a great man.
