McPherson - Hedland, Virginia and Virgil, of Elizabeth, Colorado and formerly of McPherson, Kan. Graveside services for Virginia R. and Virgil H. Hedlund will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 2:30 p.m., at the New Gottland Lutheran Church Cemetery, Rural McPherson, Kansas with the Reverend Harry Grinstad officiating. Military services will be provided by members of the American Legion Post 24 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2715 both of McPherson. Virginia R. Hedlund, 91, of Elizabeth, Colorado passed away Sunday, October 4, 2009, at Greenwood Village, Colorado. Virginia was born in Denver, Colorado on August 18, 1928, the daughter of Betty Lee (Miles) and Frank Pearl Rookard. Virginia was a Homemaker. Virginia was united in marriage to Virgil Harold Hedlund. Virgil Harold Hedlund, 87, of Elizabeth, Colorado, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 at Pearl Assisted Living. Virgil was born in McPherson, Kansas on February 1, 1926, a son of Inez (Johnson) and Waldemar Hedlund. He was a member of New Gottland Lutheran Church McPherson, Kansas. He honorably served his Country in the Merchant Marines. Virgil was a Land Developer, an avid draftsman and history buff, Virgil built hundreds of dream homes, and contributed stunning structures to the Denver skyline. Virgil and Virginia are survived by granddaughter Danielle Hedlund of Elizabeth, Colorado; a daughter-in-law Pandy Vicic and her husband Jack of Elizabeth, Colorado; Virgil's sisters, Virginia Mitchell, of McPherson, Kansas, Vivian Osborne, of Hill City, Kansas, and Betty Quarnstrom, of Topeka, Kansas; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Although Virginia and Virgil lived a full life, they will be greatly missed by those who are left behind. Virginia and Virgil were preceded in death by their parents; their son Michael Scott Hedlund; Virgil's brothers, Carl, Arnold, and Leonard Hedlund; and Virgil's sister, Alice Burkholder. Glidden - Ediger Funeral Home assisted the family with local arrangements.
