Nelson, Gary W., 74, of Phoenix, passed away on July 8, 2014. Gary was born in Hutchinson, Kan., graduated from East High School in Wichita, Kan. and served in the United States Air Force. Gary was an avid private airplane pilot when he was younger. He loved to go camping, fishing, hunting, shooting his guns and generally being outdoors. He loved playing pool and spending time with his friends at the "Hoot Owl" on a regular basis. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Janice for 42 years, before she passed away in 2000. He then married the second love of his life, Carolyn Nelson and they have been happily married for the past 14 years. Gary is survived by his second wife, Carolyn Nelson; son, Brad (Kim) Nelson; daughter, Tammy (Greg) Linden; stepson, Jason Cox; sister, Delaine (Rod) Kutz; six grandchildren, Anthony (Sarah) Spice, Jayleen (Ryan) Kaar, Heather (Arturo) Vazquez, Melissa (Dez) Nelson-Manzanarez, and Breanna and Christian Cox; as well as five great-grandchildren, Ashton, Damian, Mikayla, Angela and Sabrina. A celebration of his life will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 W. Thunderbird Road, Peoria Ariz.
