Funcheon, Sgt. Alexander James, 21, was killed in the line of duty April 29, 2007. He was born in Mesa, AZ, March 2, 1986 and grew up in Wichita, KS. Alex was known and well liked by many people. He loved to make people laugh. He joined the Army out of high school to see the world. He is survived by his parents, Bob and Karen (Servis) Funcheon, and sister, Gloria, all of Bel Aire; grandmother Elizabeth Funcheon, Phoenix, AZ, and step-grandmother, Connie Servis of Wichita; uncle Don (Lia) Funcheon of Phoenix, AZ; aunt Ruth Funcheon of Phoenix, AZ; cousins Jessica (Long) Stewart of Tulsa, OK, Christopher Long of New York City, Daniel Long of Seattle, WA, Rebecca Long of Wichita, KS, Nathan Long of Claflin, KS, Abbie and David Long of Amarillo, TX; god-parents Denny and Glenda Ebert of Colwich, KS and boyhood friend, Andrew Eldridge. A memorial fund has been established with Campus Ministry Network 12703 SW Terrace, Andover, KS 67002. Visitation with the family 6:00 ~ 8:00 P.M. Monday, Downing & Lahey West Mortuary, Services will be held 1:30 P.M, Tuesday, at Central Christian Church. Tributes may be sent to the family via www.downingandlahey.com
