Flanagan, Carl "Tom", of Wichita, originally from Massachusetts, Retired Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper, passed away early in the morning of 29 April 2012. Tom was an active member in the Law Enforcement and Irish Community. He began his career as a police officer in the U.S. Army. He served in Korea and Germany. While in Korea, Tom was privileged to drive then Vice President George Bush around the Korean DMZ. Tom married and moved to Wichita. His career in Law Enforcement began with the Wichita Police Department and moved over to the Kansas Highway Patrol. Tom was recognized as one of the state's top Drug Recognition/DUI experts, citing one news account to print knows when you've been drinking.On one occasion, his tenacity and diligence to duty caused the Kansas Highway Patrol to seize 1.7 tons of Marijuana, the largest ever at that time. After his retirement from KHP, Tom operated Wichita's only Irish store Flanagan's Irish Imports. He was actively involved with the local Irish and Scottish community. Tom is survived by his three daughters, Keegan, Kiara, and Kiley; mother, Pauline Morrow of AL; brother, John Flanagan of AZ; sister, Julie White of MA; sister, Shawn Viens of NH; brother, Evan Morrow of TX; brother, Andre Morrow of MA; brother, Mark Flanagan of MA; sister, Diane Flanagan of MA; and many more aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and good friends. Safe home! Slabhaile! A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 4 at Mt Vernon Church of God, 3115 E Mt Vernon St, with visitation two hours prior to the service. The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions to The ALS Association, 3450 N. Rock Rd., Suite 211, Wichita, KS 67226.
