Koontz, Lyle E., 87, retired businessman and beloved father, passed away peacefully June 5, 2013, with all of his children at his side. Preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn; parents, Clinton and Carrie Koontz; brother, Glen; and infant daughter, Janet. Survivors: children, Steve (Susan), Sharon Fry (Luke), Kathy Littleton (Jeff), Kenneth (Jill), Rick (LeAnn); 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren. Born March 11, 1926, at home near Haven, Kan. After graduating from Haven High School in 1944, he joined the Navy and served for 2 years, and was in the Naval Reserves for 8 more years. After his active duty, he attended Hutchinson Junior College, where he met his lovely wife to be, Carolyn, then onto Kansas State, where he was an outstanding football player, graduating in 1950. He still holds and shares several pass interception records. Later in life, he became a proud and active member of the Golden Cats. After graduation, Lyle teamed up with Charlie Peer to form Great Plains Industries, now Great Plains Ventures. Memorial service 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at Olivet Southern Baptist Church.
