I did not know Brian, but saw the article about the Carnegie Hero Medal. My brother, Dale Wittich, was awarded the Carnegie Hero medal 44 years ago when he did at age 21 in an oil field accident trying to save his fellow co-workers. I just inherited his medal from my mother when she passed last year.
What a great loss, but what an honor for you. We also had a replica of the medal attached to Dale's tombstone. pic attached.
So sorry for your loss.

I did not know Brian but have followed his story. I will pray for your family and for the soul of Brian. What a beautiful act of love and charity, an example of how to live for all of us. It sounds as though his life was lived in a way that demonstrated this love daily. In this time of sorrow, may your family find peace in knowing Brian rests in the arms of his Lord.

I pray that his family will understand in the coming days, that this was part of God's plan. He died so young, as did Christ. In the supreme act of sacrifice, as did Christ. And yet, his sacrifice will resonate, like an ocean without a shore - as did Christ's.

Brian died in an heroic act of charity. This act would remove any sins on his soul, and admit him immediately into heaven. Surely Brian will continue his ministry in concern for the diocese of Wichita, Conception abbey and Seminary, and the Church!
