JEAN CAMPBELL Obituary

Jean Scheibel Campbell, 88, Lakeview Village in Lenexa, Kan., passed away on June 9, 2012. Jean was born May 29, 1924, in Braintree, Massachusetts. She grew up in Wilmette, Illinois, and graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois; and from Northwestern University in 1946. She met her husband Laurie H. Campbell in high school and they were married 61 years prior to his death in 2006. They moved to Fairway, Kansas in 1969. Jean was a member of the Country Club Christian Church and the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She is survived by her four daughters, Nancy (Gene) Dorsey Lawrence, KS, Carol (Steve) Carter Fairway, KS, Sue (Pete) Bailey Annapolis, MD, and Barbara (Scott) Liberman St. Louis, MO. Jean was a proud and loving grandmother to her 11 grandchildren, and great-grandmother to 5 great grandchildren. Jean loved tennis and enjoyed playing with her husband and friends at Homestead Country Club. The friends she made in Kansas City and as a member of Homestead became a very special part of her life. Jean was a sharp bridge and backgammon player who played well into her 80's with great enthusiasm. Her friends and family shared much fun and laughter when they played together, and Jean's competitive nature surfaced time and time again as she went for a win. Jean's warmth and positive outlook will be missed by all who knew her. She was an amazing woman whose love of life will live on in so many fond memories. Jean and her family were very appreciative of the care and support given to her by the Lakeview Village Care Center staff and Kansas City Hospice during her later years. There will be a private gathering for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
