George M. Riley, 79, of Merriam, Kan., passed away February 2, 2013, at Kansas City Hospice House. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 5500 Woodend, KCK, with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Amazing Grace Baptist Camp, 4214 Eisenhower, Ottawa, KS 66067. George was born Aug. 5, 1933, in Kansas City, Kan. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He owned several service stations for over 55 years. George loved spending time with his family, as well as hunting, fishing, and NASCAR. He volunteered his time to the church and developed the church camp. George mentored many, many people and had a love for life. George was preceded in death by his parents, George A. and Rozella Riley, and a son, Scott Johnston. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joan Riley; children, David (Linda) Riley, Rhonda (Ken) Turski, Rick (Laura) Riley, Dan (Shelly) Riley, Suzee (Brian) Dittberner, Rashell (Mike) Guess, and Shelly Peres; 16 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one brother and three sisters. I was very sorry to hear about the passing of George. Some of my best memories were from my days working with George and Dave at Nall Hills Gulf. Thank you George for being my mentor. God Bless.

My family has known the Riley's for over twenty years. George was wonderful in treating each of us fairly with our car repairs. It was as if we were part of his family. His legacy of kindness and trustworthiness is seen in each of his children. He will be greatly missed by us all.

I first met George 34 years ago at his Texaco Service Station. George always had a smile for everyone a true gentleman. I will miss him and his smile. My sympathy to the Riley Family.

George will truly be missed! He was someone who really loved the Lord and told everyone about Him. Many jewels in this crown...to his family...may you all find comfort in all he did for the camp, for Pioneer and the love he had for our Savior! Also, his love for our COUNTRY...OORAH, SEMPER FI!

My sincere sympathies are with you all. George was such a blessing to us at Amazing Grace Baptist Camp! Anything we had need of, or needed to be done, George would be there if he could. He will be greatly missed. The new Riley Dining Hall, under construction, has already been named in his honor. May God's comforting mercies be with you.

George had a smile that could warm my heart and always made me feel like one of the family. My fondest memory is the day he gave me a ride in his beautiful restored classic car. George was a sweet guy, and I, and Big Red, will miss him. To the Riley family...you are in my thoughts.

My friendship with George and his family gos back to the days of Nall Hills Gulf and lasted all these years. He knew my sons and I knew his boys and girls.I was in the auto parts business and I went to him seeking his business and eventually he becsme our largest customer. He was a true friend. A few years ago I had a major heart attack . George called me in the hospital in Springfield,Mo.He said he wanted to know if I was "still kickin" I am sure the lord welcomed him to heaven with these words "Well done, thou good and faithfull servant.
