May 24, 1955 - Feb 27, 2013 Joe was born and raised in Kansas City, KS and graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1973. He then attended Kansas City Kansas Community College where he joined the Art Department. While there he was inspired by his teachers and developed a way of capturing people which he used in his paintings throughout his life. Joe joined the Air Force in 1975, and was stationed in the Netherlands, where he met and married the love of his life, Leonie van Grondelle in 1978. He and Leonie had two sons, Robert and Paul. They owned Bender Piano in Arnhem until they retired this past year. Everyone who met Joe always came away feeling just a little better for having known him. He is survived by his wife Leonie and their two sons, Robert and Paul. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Robert E. and Betty M. Sixta of KCKS, and is survived by sisters Marlane (Michael) Young of Hickory Creek, TX and Mary Johnson of KCKS; brothers Bob (Mary Sue) of KCKS, Bill (Deborah) of Overland Park, KS, Jeff (Peggy) of Basehor, KS. and Greg (Cyndie) of Anthem, AR. Services and burial were in Arnhem, Netherlands on March 5, 2013.
