Dennis Lee Young, Sr., 87, of Edwardsville, passed away July 18, 2013. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wed., July 24 at Chapel Hill- Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., KCK. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will follow the service in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. Dennis was born in October of 1925 to Artie and Esta Young. He grew up in Indiana and after graduating from Green Castle High School, he was drafted into the Army. He served his country in WWII and in Korea. While he was in the Army, he married an Army Nurse and the love of his life, Fannie, in September of 1946. Dennis retired from the Army in 1965 with a Bronze Star, Purple Heart and other decorations. He then went to work for the Post Office for over twenty years and was president of the letter carriers union. Dennis spent many years working with the DAV and was past local chapter and state commander. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Fannie; his son, Jeff; his granddaughter, Stephanie, and six brothers and sisters. Dennis is survived by his sons, Dennis Young, Jr. (Rosemary), Walter Young (Mary Evelyn), Kern Young (Charlene) and Lynn Young; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Young; four sisters, one brother, two sisters-in-law, twelve grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Grandpa, you touched so many lives in a a positive way. Nobody can ever compare to you. You were the only grandfather i ever knew. Its going to be hard without you here but we must go on. i am at peace knowing you aren't suffering and you are with grandma and uncle Jeff. Thank you for the great memories and you will never be forgotten. I love you and one day we will meet again.
