Anna M. Dercher, 76, passed away peacefully September 14, 2013, with her husband of 53 years, Joe, and other family members at her side. The Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 274 Orchard, KCK. Entombment in Mt. Calvary Mausoleum. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at Holy Family Church with the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, All Saints Parish (St. Joseph/St. Benedict) Catholic Church, Sisters, Servants of Mary, or the Little Sisters of the Lamb. Ann was born in Kansas City, Kan., on May 29, 1937, to Peter M. and Josephine (Schratter) Jurkewicz. She enjoyed her Polish culture and life in her community, donating her time and talents wherever she could. Even as she fought cancer, she continued crocheting lap robes for other cancer patients. She was devoted to her family of nieces and nephews and their families. She served her community in many ways including Commissioner for Planning and Zoning for the Unified Govt. of Wyandotte County, St. Joseph's Neighborhood Watchdogs President, Sisters, Servants of Mary Auxiliary, Central Avenue Business Associates, Past Officer of State of Kansas X-ray Technicians, WCAC, Riverview Neighborhood Group, and a member of the Don Lipovac Booster Club. She knew no stranger and served the firefighters, policemen, and the nuns in her community. She was preceded in death by her parents; and is survived by her husband, Joe, sister, Cathy (Don) Gergick; sister-in-law, Norma Jean (Barry) Aronson; nieces and nephews and 22 great nieces and nephews to whom she was affectionately known as "Nanny" as she cared for them as if her own. The family would like to extend their utmost gratitude to the Kansas City Cancer Center and the 4th & 5th floor staff of Shawnee Mission Medical Center for the compassionate care shown to Anna and our family.
