John H. Ballard, 83, Lee's Summit, Mo., died December 23, 2013. He fought a long and courageous battle with melanoma cancer, emphysema and heart disease. He was born on the family farm near Powersville, Mo., and graduated from high school there. He was the son of J. Glenn and Edna Ballard who are deceased. John proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved animals, nature, sports and hunting. He attended Grandview Assembly of God Church for many years until his health failed. Throughout John's long journey with illness, he showed great courage and was an inspiration to many. He credited his faith in the Lord and the power of prayer for his amazing strength and inner peace. John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty and daughter, Kimberly Ballard of Kansas City along with two sisters-in-law, Betty Maring and Louise Maring as well as four nephews. We express appreciation to Kansas City Hospice for the outstanding care they provided. There will be a memorial service at Lee's Summit First Assembly of God Church, 425 SW Oldham Rd, Lee's Summit on Friday, Dec. 27.
