Joyce Arnold Kynard, 88, of Kansas City, Mo., died April 19, 2014, at the home. Born May 29, 1925, to Edward and Zella Arnold, Joyce had five siblings: twin sister, Lois A. Smith; sisters, Thelma Wright and Bette Fopp; and brothers, Edward Arnold Jr. and Jack Arnold. Joyce initially worked for six years as the Woman's Page editor and news writer for the Kansas City Call newspaper; for two years as a clerk typist in the U.S. Corps of Engineers of the U.S. Army, Okinawa, Japan; and for two years, as a secretary at the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the American Red Cross. The longest part of her career life was served for 20 years as an elementary school teacher
in the Kansas City, Missouri Public School District. Joyce was an active member of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church for over 60 years. After retirement, for 17 years, she served through the Auxiliary Guild at St. Luke's Hospital, Kansas City. Joyce was married to Ben D. Kynard, a noted musician, for 59 years prior to his passing in 2012. They were the parents of two children, Brett D. Kynard, Esq. (Joyce Elaine) of the city and Dr. Carmen Kynard Krasick, DNP, RN (David) of Lee's Summit, Mo. Preceding Joyce in death were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward M. Arnold (Zella); her husband, Ben D. Kynard; two brothers, Edward M. and Jack L. Arnold; and one sister, Bette A. Fopp. Survivors include her children, Brett and Carmen, two grandchildren, Ashley L. Jacobs, Lee's Summit, and Jasmine L. Jacobs, Albuquerque, NM; two sisters, (twin) Lois A. Smith, KCMO, and Thelma Wright, Napa, Calif.; sister-in-law, Shiverla Jones; nieces, nephews, and their own children; and a host of friends. Special thanks to her caregiver, Theresa, for her devoted years of service. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 3, at St. Augustine's Episcopal Church, KCMO.
