Leroy 'Pop' Miller was born on February 25, 1920 and died on February 28, 2014. He was the eighth of ten children born to the late William Sr. and Etta Jane Miller in Salisbury, NC. Pop graduated from North Carolina A&T University in 1942. After graduating, he was drafted into the Army during World War II
. He served for three years and earned four bronze stars
. After the war, Pop moved to Charlotte and became a teacher. He married Sadie Moragne in 1952. They had two children: a son, William 'Skip' Miller and a daughter, Pauline, who died in infancy. In 1973, Pop became principal at East Mecklenburg High School and retired from this position in 1982. In 2004, he moved to Kansas City, MO so that he could be closer to his son and grandchildren. Pop was preceded in death by his wife Sadie in 1993 and his siblings John, William Jr., Joseph, Pauline, Ruth, Anne, Minnie and Mabel. Pop is survived by his son, William 'Skip' Miller; daughter-in-law, Melanie; grandsons, Chip and Jordan; sister, Marie Burney (Herman); in-laws Dan & Gustava White, and many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. The funeral will be held at St. James United Methodist Church on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 11:00 AM. The visitation will be from 9 -11.
